What is Spousal Support? Spousal support is a payment made by the spouse who has been the main supporter of the other spouse or who has made a larger contribution to the household over the course of the marriage. It is paid to help the dependent spouse maintain their standard of living. Florida is a no fault state. This means that even if the dependent party was engaged in adultery, that may not even be brought before the court. spousal support is usually paid ranging from monthly payments to one sum. Your lawyer will help determine which is right for you.

Some circumstances the court may consider include, the age of the dependent spouse, their occupation, the length of your marriage, any employment skills the dependent party may or may not have, the state of their health, the cost of maintaining their livelihood, and other possible sources of income. The court will also look at these factors when in regard to how much the supporting spouse will have to pay. The court may also look at the different contribution that each spouse has given over the course of their marriage. For example if one spouse was strictly a homemaker. In certain cases spousal support will be paid in a lump sum, until the dependent gets remarried or dies, or it can go on for a particular amount of time.
